Typical Values: Water level at mid-skimmer opening; Empty basket every 2–3 days

In Plain Language

Pool skimmers use pump suction to draw surface water (and everything floating on it) into a basket-equipped housing where debris is captured before the water continues to the pump and filter. Correct water level is critical — the surface should be at the midpoint of the skimmer opening. Too low and the pump draws air; too high and the skimmer does not capture surface debris effectively.

Why It Matters

Skimmers are the primary defence against surface debris that would otherwise sink, decompose, and contribute to chlorine demand and cloudiness.
