Equipment Entity

Cartridge Filter

A filter using pleated polyester cartridges to trap particles down to 10–15 microns without backwashing.

Definition

Cartridge filters use pleated polyester fabric cartridges to filter pool water. They provide finer filtration than sand (10–15 microns) without requiring backwashing — only periodic cartridge removal, rinsing with a hose, and occasional overnight soaking in cartridge cleaning solution. Cartridges should be replaced every 12–18 months. They are well suited to areas with water restrictions because they do not require backwash water. Flow resistance is higher than sand filters of the same size, which may require a larger pump.
