Definition
Water balancing is the comprehensive process of adjusting pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, CYA, and free chlorine to achieve a stable, safe, and non-damaging water chemistry. The correct order matters: adjust alkalinity first (it determines how much acid/base is needed for pH), then pH, then calcium hardness, then CYA, then chlorine. The final check is the LSI — if all individual parameters are in range, the LSI confirms the combination is balanced. Properly balanced water protects equipment, surfaces, and swimmers.
