Shock Dosage

Shock dosage refers to the amount of shock product required to raise free chlorine to the target level for the pool volume and treatment goal.

Definition Shock dosage refers to the amount of shock product required to raise free chlorine to the target level for the pool volume and treatment goal.
🎯
Typical Values: Maintenance: 1 lb cal-hypo per 10,000 gal raises FC by ~6.5 ppm; Green pool: multiple doses needed

In Plain Language

Standard maintenance shock raises FC to 10 ppm. Recovery shock for green pools targets 30 ppm. The dosage depends on: pool volume (in gallons), the target FC increase (in ppm), and the available chlorine percentage of the product. Use the pool shock calculator to calculate the exact dose. Pre-dissolve granular shock in a bucket of water before adding to the pool.

Why It Matters

Under-dosing shock fails to reach breakpoint and wastes product. Over-dosing delays re-entry and adds unnecessary calcium (for cal-hypo).
