Chemical compatibility refers to the safety of mixing or sequentially adding pool chemicals to water without dangerous reactions.
Definition
Chemical compatibility refers to the safety of mixing or sequentially adding pool chemicals to water without dangerous reactions.
Typical Values: Always add chemicals separately; wait at least 30 minutes between additions
In Plain Language
Most pool chemicals must never be mixed directly. Chlorine and acid (muriatic acid) react to produce chlorine gas — potentially lethal. Chlorine shock and trichlor tablets in contact can ignite. All chemicals should be pre-dissolved separately in fresh water and added to the pool at different locations at different times. Never mix chemicals in the same bucket.
Why It Matters
Mixing incompatible pool chemicals has caused serious injuries and deaths. Storage and handling protocols are safety-critical.
Typical Values
Always add chemicals separately; wait at least 30 minutes between additions
